LET’s Talk

J4K Sea Cruise is an adventure cruise that takes the kids through 5 islands. The ship is captained by a Pirate who was a very bad person. She had gone on a trip to five islands. During that time she met the greatest friend (Jesus) and his life changed for good!

You will introduce the kids to this Pirate and help them learn from her experience. To do that you will go on a video call. Pretend to make a video call on the phone while showing the video to the children. You will have to pause the video intermittently and say a few words to make this session interactive. Please find the instructions in the script below. This session will be used to teach the Memory verse of the day as well.

Please find the script for the U Turn Island (Island #3) video below:

You: Children, don’t you all like the pirate? Shall we make the video call? (Act as if making a video call using your phone. Then play the video)
Pirate Video: (Pirate will say Hi and will ask for the password)
You:
(Password is the Bible verse of the day. Help the children repeat the verse thrice. Pause the video if the verse takes longer to read and then continue.)
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. [John 3: 16]
Pirate Video:
(The pirate will take you around the island and talk about it)
You: (Bid goodbye to the Pirate
)

Bible Event

Bible Portion: Jonah 1: 15-17; 2;
Story Outline:

Jonah was falling from the ship into the deep sea. Can you imagine what Jonah must have felt at that moment?
He would have been scared. He might have been guilty for making the bad choice. He might have even wished that he made the right choice in the first place.

Let’s talk about God. You might wonder why a good God punishes people! Let me answer you. A good judge punishes people rightly according to the mistakes they have made. He does not leave the guilty unpunished. God is just. On the otherhand, God is loving. He does not like to see people hurt. He is like a grandmother who would step in between you and your parents to support you.

Do you see the problem God has? On one side he does not like to punish any of us for the bad things we do. But on the other, he has to punish because He is good. The Bible says that everyone in the world has done mistakes including you and me. The punishment is eternal separation from God. Can you imagine a room where the light is off? It would be dark and scary. You will not feel good.

But God did not want to see us all suffer. So He came to earth in the form of a man to help us. 2000 years ago He was born as a human in Bethelehem. We call Him, Jesus. He lived a perfect life. He did good everywhere He went. He was crucified as a criminal though he did no mistake. He died on the cross. He was punished so that we can be absolved of our punishment. Because He is powerful God, He rose again from the dead on the thrid day. Today, He is in heaven preparing a place for you and me. Whoever asks God for forgiveness and help is forgiven. They get to escape punishment. Do you see how good God is?

This is what happened to Jonah too. God did not want Jonah to die. While Jonah was falling deep into the sea, God sent a big fish to swallow Jonah. Jonah stayed in the belly of the fish for 3 days. Jonah was so thankful to God for saving Him. From inside the belly of the fish he talked to God and thanked God for listening to his prayers as he was drowing in the deep sea. Jonah recalled how good God is and how he helps those who ask Him to.

God who helped Jonah can help you too! God not only helped Jonah but through Jonah helped many people. Do you want to know what happened? Please don’t miss next week!

Activity

The activity would differ for each of the age groups – Special (3-7 years), Strong (8-12 years), Deep (13-15 years)

Special (3-7 years)
Page 1: Refer to the link give below and help the children make a paper fish. Stick the fish on the worksheet as an answer to the question – “How did God save Jonah?”
Origami Fish: https://youtu.be/djPgd1m6IMY
Page 2: Ask them to look at the pictures and retell the story.

Strong (8-12 years)

Page 1: Ask the children to color the page. While they do, ask them why Jesus died and build a conversation based on their answers.
Page 2: Ask the children to connect the pictures with the appropriate messages in the circles. Refer to the picture for answers. Please use this time to share your personal testimony on your relationship with Jesus – on how you spend time with Jesus; how He talks to you, etc.

Game

Fill a huge tub/ bucket with water. Add some plants, flowers and grass to make it muddy. In an ice-cream stick draw a face. This will represent Jonah. Show Jonah to the children and then hide it deep in the vegetation filled water. Ask the kids to gather around and find Jonah. If there are more than 5 kids in your class, divide the children into groups of 5. Make each team play one after the other and time each of the groups. The group that finishes first would be the winner.
