LET’s Talk

Objective:
You will use this section to talk about bullies that make you angry in everyday life.

Things Needed: Give two pictures (1. Direct bullying. 2. Cyber bullying)

Method:

  • Ask the boys to find out what the brawlers are doing in the picture.
  • As the children begin to talk freely, ask them to share their personal experiences about bullies they have encountered at school or in the neighborhood.

Please be mindful that this is a very sensitive topic for many kids and they may not be able to share it openly.

Memory verse

Bible Event

Bible Portion: Genesis 4: 1-12
Event Outline:

Isaac loved God and talked to Him regularly. God blessed him and made his wealth increase. He had so many flocks and servants. This made the neighbors (Philistines) quite jealous. And so, they bullied him. They destroyed his property and closed all the wells which his father Abraham had dug. Even the king of that land, Abimelech was jealous. He ordered Isaac to go away from their land and settle elsewhere.

What would you have done in Isaac’s place?

Isaac walked away. He didn’t fight back. He might have talked about it to God. He moved away from them to the valley of Gerar. He reopened the wells the Philistines had destroyed. The bullies didn’t leave him alone. They came back and destroyed the wells he had just reopened.

What would you have done in Isaac’s place?

Isaac walked away. He didn’t fight back. He might have talked about it to God. He dug a new well. God helped him discover fresh drinking water. The bullies returned. They quarreled saying, “This is still our land and the water is ours.”

What would you have done in Isaac’s place?

Isaac didn’t quarrel back. He dug another well. Name it Sitnah (Opposition). The bullies quarreled again.
Isaac didn’t quarrel back. He dug another well. But this time the bullies got tired and left him alone.
He named the well Rehoboth which means “God has given us this place and we will do well”.

God was very happy with the way Isaac relied on God to fight his bullies. He did not fight back on his own or quarrel back but walked away. He asked God to help him. God appeared to Isaac and promised to bless him even more.
Do you want to know what happened to the bullies? They came back to visit Isaac. This time they no longer wanted to be bullies. They asked Isaac if they could be his friends because God was with him and helping him.

Message:
Walk away as quickly as you can from a situation that can make you angry. If you do, God will fight for you. He will show others that he is with you.
ACTIVITY TIME

Materials Required: Balloon, News paper, Woolen thread, Markers, Floor mat

Preparation: Cut the woolen thread into smaller lengths.

Method:

  • Give each child a balloon, newspaper, and a bunch of short thread.
  • They should make small balls out of the newspaper and fill the balloon.
  • After the balloon becomes like a lemon-sized ball, ask them to secure it with the woolen thread. (see picture)
  • Ask them to draw eyes, nose and mouth on the balloon ball and write their names beneath.
  • Balloon ball is now ready for the game.

How to play the game:

  • Ask the children to stand in a circle.
  • Place the floor mat at the center of the circle.
  • Pull out a child from the circle who will play the part of the floor mat. This child should remain outside the circle.
  • The other children should aim their balls towards the floor mat on the ground and throw.
  • Their balloon balls must fall and stay inside the floor mat.
  • The kids whose balls go out of the floor mat, should step out of the circle and they cannot continue in the game.
  • Ask the child who is currently playing the part of the “Floor mat”, if the he/she wants to “Fight back” or “Ignore”.
  • If they choose “Fight back”, then they get to pick another person to play the “Floor mat” and they could join the circle with the other throwers.
  • If they choose “Ignore”, then they continue to be the floor mat.
  • Keep a note of the kids who choose “Ignore” option.
  • Continue the game as long as there are kids in the circle to throw their balls into the floor mat.
  • Repeat the game as time permits by choosing new players to play the part of the “Floor Mat”
  • The child who had chosen “Ignore” the most number of times is the winner of the game.
  • Announce the winners at the end of the game and share the life lesson given below.

Message:

  • Bullies will get tired if you keep ignoring them, just like the number of players in the circle reduced every round.
  • If you keep ignoring the bullies without responding back, you will turn out to be the winner at the end.
