LET’s Talk
Objective:
You will use this section to set the context of today’s lesson.
Things Needed: Printouts of the following two images [optional]

Method:
- Ask the children to stand and hold the pictures in front of them.
- Share an everyday phrase like, “I want water” or “I am hungry”.
- When you show the “Wow” picture, kids should say that sentence in a polite fashion.
- When you show “Grrrr”, kids must say the same phrase angrily as if they were fighting.
- Repeat the game by increasing and decreasing the pace in which you swap the pictures.
- Make the kids who get it wrong sit in their places and continue the game.
- Ask the children who sat down how they felt when they heard other kids yelling and shouting for a simple thing. Did it make them feel happy? or were they annoyed?
- In most cases, listening to someone yell and brawl would make us unhappy and even angry.
- Start today’s class by asking the children, is making others angry a good or a bad idea?
Memory verse
Teach the following memory verse to the kids using hand movements/ any activity of you choice.
“A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”
[Proverbs 15:1]
Bible Event
Bible Portion: I Kings 12: 1- 19
Event Outline:
| Israel was made of 12 tribes. You can think of that as a country with 12 states. The ruler, King Solomon had died. His son, Rehoboam had just become the new king. Israelites welcomed him happily as their new king. They wanted only one favor from the new king – their job was taking a toll on them and their families; so, they wanted the king to reduce their official work. The senior wise counselors in the palace told Rehoboam that if he complied with their simple request, he could win over all the people to his side. They said that people would gladly serve him. But his younger friends suggested otherwise. They said that the new king had to be rude to show how powerful he is. Rehoboam listened to his younger friends. He responded harshly to his countrymen. People were very angry. 12 states divided into two. Only 2 of the 12 tribes accepted Rehoboam as their king. Others chose a new king. Rehoboam goes down in history as a king who lost his influence because he angered others. Message: Making others angry is always a bad plan. |
ACTIVITY TIME
Materials Required: newspaper
Method:
- Give each child a piece of newspaper.
- They should roll into a lemon-sized ball.
- Divide the class into two and draw a line between the two groups.
- When you give the signal to start, the kids from each group should throw their balls into the other team’s court.
- Signal stop.
- Then count the balls in both the group’s location.
- The team with the highest number of balls win.
- Note: Please keep the winning criteria (team with the highest ball) a secret till the end when you announce the winners 😉
