LET’s Talk

Objective:
You will use this section to set the context of today’s lesson.

Things Needed: The given pictures.

For picture 1, move the slider (round button in the center) to extreme right. For picture 2, move the slider to extreme left

Method:

Narrate the following story about a young boy name Mohan and lead the kids in a time of discussion.

(Show picture 1) Mohan has been complaining that he cannot see well. In school he misread what was in the board and got into trouble with his teacher. At home his sister has been so angry with him as he told her she was very dirty. She looked very dirty to him. His friends have been avoiding him recently. Can you look at the picture and find out Mohan’s problem?

Let the children take some time and answer. Group them into smaller groups if you can for this discussion.

Then share this opener with them:

Mohan’s problem is his dirty glasses. He could not see clearly. If he replaces the glasses, everything will be fine again. (Show Figure 2)
Do you see how important clear eyes are? Today I am going to tell you about a boy who had no chance to succeed in life. The boy who should have lost won. I am going to tell you the secret of his success. Are you ready?

Memory verse
Bible Event

Bible Portion: 2 Kings 22
Event Outline:

Josiah was born into a powerful, but broken family. His father, Amon was the King of Judah. But the king was evil and did many bad things. During the third year of his reign, people conspired against him and killed him. They made Josiah who was the crown prince the King. Josiah was only eight years old. On one hand, Josiah lost his father and on the other hand, he had to serve the people who hurt his family. Can you imagine how hard it must have been for Josiah when he was about your age?
Even when everything was bad around him, he turned out to be one of the greatest Kings of Judah. He became quite successful and reigned for a long time (31 years) unlike his father. Do you know how? He had clear eyes. How did he get clear eyes? He found God’s Word (Bible) and started reading it. When he read it he found things he and his people were doing wrong. He obeyed what God said, and his life became a successful one.

Message:

God’s Word will make your eyes clear. Have you read it today?
(Ask the kids who do not have the Bible to get one from you)

ACTIVITY TIME

Materials Required: Paper lighthouse/ picture given below, square paper sheets for each kid,

Preparation: If you can, make a lighthouse using paper as shown in the reference picture. Else you can show the lighthouse picture given below.

Method:

  • Ask the children to make small paper boats using the square paper.
  • Ask them to decorate it like they want and write their name on the boats.
  • Place the paper lighthouse in the center of the class.
  • Make the kids sit in circle.
  • They should place the boat in the floor, next to them.
  • Tell them to blow the boat towards the lighthouse.
  • The winner of the game is those who get to the lighthouse first.

Message:

God’s word is like like the lighthouse guiding a ship in the dark sea. If you read God’s word, and do what it says you will be successful in life.
