LET’s Talk

Objective:
You will use this section to set the context of today’s lesson.

Things Needed: The following two pictures.

Method:

Have you seen a chase scene in a cartoon? A big robot or cat would be chasing a little child or a mouse. (Show the pictures to kids and ask them to answer these questions)

  • How would you feel if you were the little boy or the mouse in the picture when you are being chased?
  • What would you look for when you are being chased?

Then share this opener with them:

Sometimes life also chases us – you will have exam the next day but there would not be enough time to study; your school might be taking your class to a field trip, but your parents may not have the money immediately; your friends would be pressurizing you to do something wrong and you wouldn’t know what to do.

What do you do in such situations? You will look for help. If there is no one to help you, you would desperately look for a way out yourself. Today I am going to share about the high speed chase Israelis went through nearly 3500 years ago. Did they escape? Did the find a way out? Or did they fail? Are you ready to listen? Let’s start!

Memory verse
Bible Event

Bible Portion: Exodus 14: 5-31
Event Outline:

The Israelis were slaves under the Egyptians for nearly 400 years. God helped them leave Egypt by performing mighty miracles through Moses, God’s servant, and their great leader. They were so happy. But when the Israelis had stepped out and were gone for about 3 days, the Egyptians realized what they had done. They freed their slaves and now they had to do all the hard work. They didn’t like that at all. The king mustered his big army which included 600 chariots and sent them after the Israelis. That is where the high-speed chase begins.

The Israelites were happily camping before the sea waiting for God to show them their next step. Suddenly they noticed the scary Egyptian army coming right at them. They panicked. They cried and prayed. They complained to Moses their leader and said that the Egyptians would kill them. They were right too. There was no way out. In front of them was the Red Sea and behind them was the killer army.

But they forgot about someone else who was with them. Do you remember who that is? Yes! God. God was there and he asked the Israelites to get ready to see an impossible way! He told Moses to stretch his staff towards the sea and guess what happened? The sea split into two. A heavy wind blew and dried up the sea floor. God made a way through an impossible way. The Israelites crossed the sea through a dry land in between two huge walls of standing water. Can you imagine how amazing that would have been?

What happened to the enemies? They tried to follow the Israelis through the wall of water. But God confused their army. Their chariot wheels came off by themselves. The Egyptians realized that God was making a way for the Israelis and they made a mistake fighting against God. Once the Israelis crossed the sea, the waters returned to their position. The entire army of Egypt that followed the Israelis into the sea drowned.

Talk to God about your problems. He can make a way in an impossible situation. He loves you that much!

GAme TIME

Materials Required: Nothing

Method:

  • Divide the kids into 4 almost equal groups.
  • Make them stand one behind the other in 4 lines as shown.
  • There would be 3 gaps in between the 4 lines. Name them as 1, 2, 3 or anything fancy like a color/ animal/ flower etc.
  • Ask them to raise their hands to the side, to fill the gaps (Refer to the picture).
  • Call out the names of the gaps in random order.
  • The kids filling the gap that is being called should lower their hands and make a way.
  • If anyone in the line gets it wrong, ask them to go to the back of the line and sit down.
  • Those who stay till the end are the winners.
  • Remind today’s message – Our God makes impossible ways.
CRAFT TIME

Materials Required: a white and blue rectangular sheet of same size for each child, markers, Glue

Preparation:

  1. Cut the blue sheet into half. Make insertions along one side of both the sheets. This will form the wall of water. (Note: If the blue sheet is not available, you can give a white sheet and ask the kids to color it blue.)
  2. Draw two (straight/ curved) lines dividing the white sheet in the middle as shown. Fill the in the space between with circles.

Method:

  • The kids must draw fishes on the blue sheets and stick them facing down on the two sides of the white sheet as shown.
  • Fold the sheets upward to form walls of water as shown.
  • The inner circles represent the Israelites who walked through the impossible way.
  • Ask the kids to imagine how they would have felt and draw emojis within the circle.
  • Optionally they can color the dry ground as well.
  • Remind the day’s lesson – Talk to God about your problems. He will make a way in your impossible situation. And you will be as happy and relieved as the Israelites were that day.
