In all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight [Proverbs 3:6]
LET’s Talk
Objective:
You will use this section to set the context of today’s lesson.
Things Needed: Wrap a box and write “Lost and found” on it. Draw and cut out a big mouth in an A4 sheet. Put the paper mouth inside the box.
Method:
Tell the children that over the next 5 weeks, including this one, you are going to discuss 5 important things that have been mostly lost in the life. These important things make ordinary people extraordinary. Encourage your children to listen carefully to these truths to become better people.
Show the box and ask them to guess what the lost thing in the box could be. Once the children come up with few guess, show them what is inside and share the following introduction:
Did you know that an average person speaks 16000 words a day? That seems like a lot, isn’t? However, many of those words have no value because we are talking a lot of “idle” talk.
- We simply say, “From tomorrow I will study regularly.”
- “I will never do this again” is just saying to avoid punishment. We say “sorry” for the same mistake without actually changing.
- “I’ll call you tomorrow” we just say to grandma and grandpa and we never do.
Saying such words may not seem like a big deal at first. But those idle will stop you from becoming a great person. People who succeed in life walk the talk. They honor their word no matter how hard it is. Today, I am going to share an example from the greatest man in the world. are you ready?
Bible Event
Bible Portion: Mark 4:35-41
Event Outline:
After a long tiring day, Jesus told his disciples, “Let’s go to the other side”. He and his disciples left on boats to the other side of the lake. Jesus was so tired that he slept on the boat. Unfortunately, a storm came up. The waves broke over the boat that it nearly drowned. The disciples woke Jesus up. They questioned him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” But Jesus was someone who kept his word. He told the disciples that they would go to the other side. No matter how tired he was or how badly he wanted to nap or how annoying the storm was, Jesus was going to do what he said. He woke up and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be Still!” The wind died down and it was completely calm. Jesus and the disciples reached the other side just like he said. Jesus kept his word and he still does. Do you keep your word?
GAme TIME
Materials Required: Write some simple activities like “sing a song”, “jump twice”, “laugh aloud”, “make a cat sound” in small chits of paper. Fold them and put them in a bowl.
Method:
Ask each child to come forward and pick a chit. They should read what is written aloud and then do what it says. Award a small gift (Ex. A candy) to each child who does what it says. Remind the kids to do what they say. Wise kids will not read what is written aloud. Point it out at the end and teach the boys, “Talk only about what you do. Don’t say about what you don’t do.” Award such kids with the small gift too at the end.
CRAFT TIME
Materials Required: One Color sheet/ newspaper (A5 size) for each kid, markers, glue.
Preparation (Optional): Cut out ears, nose, tongue and teeth on a different colored paper as shown. Alternatively you can ask the kids to directly draw them on the puppet.
Method:
- Fold the A5 sheet vertically and glue the sides together, forming a cylindrical pipe.
- Flatten the pipe you have formed.
- Fold the flattened paper into M as shown in the picture.
- The holes on the ends will be used to place the fingers inside.
- Draw/ Stick the facial features of the puppet.
- Ask the children to use the puppet to say something to their friends.
- Remind them the day’s lesson again – honor your Words.
