Q1: How did everything begin?

Teacher Remarks:
Scientists have suggested many ideas about how the earth began. Some talk about the Big Bang; others say evolution explains everything and that humans came from monkeys. However, even scientists agree about one thing – that there is nothing in science so far that disproves the creation account in Genesis 1.

The Bible clearly says, “In the beginning, God created…” God Himself, the source of creation, tells us how it started. Creation was not the result of random chemical reactions. God planned everything intentionally. He thought through creation carefully—and that includes planning for you. The Bible tells us that God even knew about us before the foundations of the earth were laid.

The Bible tells us that the beginning was not beautiful. The earth was formless, empty, and covered with water. There was no light—only darkness. Some Bible scholars believe that there was a beautiful world at first, which was destroyed when Satan rebelled against God and was thrown down to earth. This view is called the Gap Theory, because they suggest a gap between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2. Other scholars disagree and believe God would not leave out such important information if it were true. This view is often called the Young Earth Theory.

No matter which view is correct, one thing is clear: the earth we see today did not start out beautiful. It was empty and wasted, as some Bible translations say. But God transformed it into the beautiful world we live in today.

Q3: Did dinosaurs really exist? Does the Bible talk about them?

Teacher Remarks:
The first dinosaur fossil was identified in 1677 by Robert Plot in England. Much later, the word “dinosaur” was coined by scientist Richard Owen using Greek words meaning “fearfully great lizard.” This means humans discovered dinosaurs only recently. The Bible was written nearly 2,000 years ago, long before the word dinosaur existed. So it is not surprising that the Bible does not use that word. However, the Bible does describe powerful and fearful creatures.

Many scholars believe these creatures could be dinosaurs: Behemoth (Job 40:15–45), Leviathan (Job 41; Psalm 104:26), Dragon (Psalm 74:13). Once again, we see that the Bible does not contradict science.

Yes, Satan was also created by God—just like us. He was not evil in the beginning. The Bible says he was beautiful and had a special place. But one day, pride filled his heart. He wanted to become greater than God. Imagine your biriyani telling you, “From now on, I will rule you. You must do only what I say.” That would never work. Because of his pride and rebellion, Satan was thrown down. Some Bible scholars suggest that this could be connected to the extinction of dinosaurs, though the Bible does not clearly say so.

Q6: Why didn’t God explain the science of creation in the Bible? Why no equations or formulas?

The Bible is not a science textbook. It is God’s love letter and instruction manual for living the best life. God did not write it only for scientists. Imagine the Bible filled with complex mathematical equations and chemical formulas—most of us would not understand it. God chose to explain creation in a simple way that everyone could understand. While the Bible does not give every detail, it gives us enough clues to know which scientific ideas align with truth and which do not.

Q7: Where did God come from? Who created God?

Dr. Kent Hovind puts it well, “God of the Bible is not affected by Time, Space or Matter. If he is affected by Time, Space or Matter, He is not God. Time, Space or Matter is what we call a continuum and it should come into existence at the same instance. If there were matter but no space, where would you put it? If there were matter and space but no time, then when would put it? You cannot have time space or matter independently. They have to come into existence simultaneously. Bible answers that in 10 words – In the beginning (Time), God created the Heavens (Space) and the Earth (matter). Time has past, present, future. Space has length, width, height. Matter has solid, liquid, gas. The God who created them has to be outside of them. If He is limited by time, then He is not God. For example, the person who created a mobile is not in the mobile phone changing the numbers on the screen. The God who created the universe is outside of the universe. He is above it, beyond it and He is unaffected by it. The question where did God come from is assuming a limited God. If we could understand Him fully, then He might not be worth worshiping.”
