Hi there! 👋
Thank you so much for partnering with the J4K-52 mission to share Jesus with children in a way that truly connects with them. We’re excited to have you on this journey! This is Recap & Respond of Unit 1 (NEW Account) for Flame Kids 🔥 (Ages 8 and above). Click here for the complete lesson plan.
Let’s get started! 🚀
Setting the context
Ask the children to read Genesis 1 and notice one repeated pattern after each day of creation:
After creating, God paused, looked at His work, and declared that it was good. In other words, God took time to step back and review what He had done.
Next, ask them to read Genesis 2:1–3 and find out what God did on Day 7. God rested from all His work. This does not mean He was tired. It means He stopped creating and set that day apart as holy—special and different from the others.
In our time, we set aside Sunday in a similar way. It is a day to pause from our regular routines, remember God, and worship Him together. That is why we gather at church on Sundays.
Today, we will do something similar. We will pause our lessons and take time to reflect on and recap what we have learned so far.
Recap
Share a brief summary of the four chapters in this unit.
Interactively recap the key ideas with the children—invite them to share what stood out to them, what surprised them, or what they remember most from each chapter.
Chapter 1: Darkness
✅God is the Creator and has revealed truth about creation.
✅ Science explores what God has already made and points us to the Creator.
✅The Big Picture: We don’t see it all yet, but one day, with God, it will be clear.
Chapter 2: World
✅God spoke and created the world from nothing by His Word.
✅Bible is the word of God in written form, which can do what God can do.
✅How to read the Bible?
Chapter 3: Life
✅ Humans are God’s special creation.
✅ Humans are made in God’s image and carry His breath of life.
✅ You are deeply valued—you are not an accident.
Chapter 4: Love
✅ God loves humans deeply and cares about every detail of their lives
✅ Humans need other humans
✅ Humans ultimately need God
Respond
Give each child a piece of paper and ask them to write one question based on everything they have learned so far.
The question can be anonymous, and it can be something they are curious about—even if they think they already know the answer.
Collect the questions and respond to them as best as you can.
For any questions you don’t know the answer to, it’s okay to say, “I don’t know yet.” Let them know you will find the answer and come back to them next week—and be sure to follow up. This models humility, curiosity, and a growing faith.
