introduction
(Hold your phone close to your ear and act as if speaking to someone over the phone) “Hello! Hello! Hello! Is anyone there? Why is no one talking? Hello! Is anybody there?” (Then spend a few minutes telling the children how you have so much to tell the other person in the phone but they are not listening)
Today I am going to share something very important. Everyone of us misses the message from a very import person many a time. Are you surprised? Let’s jump in to today’s session and find out more!
Memory Verse
Call to me and I will answer you. Jeremiah 33:3a ESV
Write each word of the verse on a separate slip and shake it up.
Have the children rearrange the verse into the correct order. Divide the children into small groups to make this game a mini-competition.
Bible Event
Bible Portion: I Samuel 3
Story: God talks to Samuel
Message:
We learnt in the first lesson that God can see you and He is watching over you. We learnt from the second lesson that he listens carefully to you. What we are going to learn today is that God can speak. He wants to talk to you. “Samuel! Samuel!” God spoke to little Samuel by calling him by name. He told Samuel the things that would happen in the future. He spoke not only once but again and again. Do you want God to speak to you? Will you listen to God?
Activity
Introduce The Bible which is one of the most important ways God talks to people. Show a Bible to the kids as you present this section and talk about the facts given below:
- Bible is called the Word of God – It means that Bible is a compilation of what God spoke before.
- The interesting fact is, though these words were spoken in the past, they can talk to you today and even tell you what will happen in the future. That is the power of our God.
- Bible has 66 books.
- Around 40 authors wrote it. Do you know how humans wrote such a great scripture? 2 Timothy 3:16 says that all scriptures are given by God. The authors of each book listened to God and wrote.
- The most amazing thing is that many of the authors of the Bible did not even see each other (some were not even born when others were alive). The Bible was written over a span of 1400 years. But not a single word of what they wrote contradicted each other’s words. This reveals an important secret to us. The Bible was written by one author, God, with the help of many men.
- That is what makes this book very special. It is a love letter God wrote for every human being in the past, present and the future to read.
- Are you willing to read the love letter of God to you?
- If you read the Bible, you can hear God speaking to you today.
Talk about an incident when God spoke to you through the Bible and helped you in your life.
Game
Game: This is a well-known game called “Simon Says”. You can use a name other than “Simon” (eg “Ravi”). Give small commands for the children to obey by saying “Ravi says”. E.g. “Ravi says to jump twice” The boys have to jump twice. If you give a command that doesn’t start with “Ravi says”, the boys shouldn’t do that. If they do, they are out and should leave the game.
Message: Some of you heard the command and obeyed yet you lost the game. That is because you didn’t check if it came from Ravi. God wants to talk to you. But you have to listen carefully. Listen carefully to what God says because many people talk like God but they are not God. How can you be sure God is talking to you? You can know for sure that God is speaking to you only when you read and know that God’s Word, the Bible, says so.
