Story Time
Pharoah was not kind
Context
The Israelites lived happily in Egypt for many years. Their families grew, and there were more and more Israelites. The adults enjoyed their work, and the children played happily with their friends.
But many years later, a new king, Pharaoh, began to rule Egypt. He did not know Joseph or remember all the good things Joseph had done for Egypt.
When Pharaoh saw that the Israelites were becoming a large and strong nation, he became afraid. Instead of trusting God, he chose to act out of fear.
So Pharaoh treated the Israelites very badly. He made them slaves and put cruel taskmasters over them. They were forced to work long, hard hours building cities such as Pithom and Rameses for him.
Let’s Talk
Have you ever seen someone being unkind at school or on the playground? Have you seen someone being bullied? (Allow the children to share.)
Why do you think Pharaoh was so unkind to the Israelites? (Allow answers.)
Pharaoh was afraid. He thought hurting others would make him stronger.
But is that true?
No. Truly strong people are kind, loving, and caring. People who bully or hurt others are often acting out of fear and weakness.
So, what kind of person do you want to be—someone who is kind or someone who hurts others?
Story Continues
Did Pharaoh’s cruel treatment make the Israelites weaker?
No! The more they were mistreated, the more they grew in number and became stronger. God was with His people.
This made Pharaoh even angrier.
So he gave a terrible order. He told the Hebrew midwives, Shiphrah and Puah, to kill every baby boy as soon as he was born.
But Shiphrah and Puah loved God. They refused to hurt the babies and chose to obey God instead of Pharaoh.
God was pleased with them, protected them, and blessed them for doing what was right.
When Pharaoh saw that his plan had failed, he became even more evil. He ordered all the people of Egypt to throw every Hebrew baby boy into the River Nile.

15 mins: [✨]
Activity
Give each child a copy of the coloring sheet along with some crayons.
As they color, remind them that God wants us to be kind, compassionate, and loving to everyone. Talk about simple ways they can show kindness at home, at school, and while playing with their friends.
5 mins: [✨]
Homework
Print one colouring sheet for each child.
Share this, “What are some ways you can be kind to others? (Let the children answer). Choose one person around you and show them kindness this week through your words or actions.
Be ready to share your experience in the next class. I would love to hear how you showed God’s kindness to someone else!”
