ACTIVITY: Singing Time
Teach the children a song about serving God faithfully. Encourage them to sing along with simple actions. You may also use the Tamil song provided with this lesson.
25 mins: [✨]
Story Time
CONTEXT: Judges 2:16–23
God helped the Israelites so much. He saved them from the cruel Pharaoh through Moses. He protected them as they journeyed through the scary desert. He brought them safely to a beautiful place called Canaan through Joshua.
PEOPLE FORGOT GOD: Judges 2:16–23
But as time passed, they forgot about Him. They listened to bad friends and made bad choices. They did what God had told them not to do because it would harm them. They said “No” to God.
CONSEQUENCE: Judges 6:1–6
When they moved away from God, they lost the protection He gave them. Another group of people called the Midianites took over their land. They made life very difficult for the Israelites. Whenever the Israelites planted crops, the Midianites would come and destroy them. The Israelites were so afraid that they hid in the mountains and caves.
PEOPLE REMEMBERED GOD: Judges 6:7–10
That’s when the people remembered God. They realised how protected they were when they followed Him. They cried out to God for help.
GOD HELPED: Judges 6:11–22
God did not abandon them. He helped them by choosing a judge named Gideon to lead them and save them from the Midianites.
(Briefly share the story of Gideon.)
MESSAGE
Remember Jesus every day. He is the One who truly loves and protects you. Don’t be like the people in the story who forgot God when they were happy.
20 mins: [✨]
Things Needed:
- Everyday household items, such as plates, schoolbooks, toys, snacks, etc., that the children can relate to.
Method:
- Place the objects at the center of the class.
- Each child must pick an object when it is their turn and share how they can remember Jesus when using that object.
- Start by showing them an example. Pick up a plate and close your eyes for a quick word of prayer. Then ask the children, “Do you know what I thought about? I thought, ‘Thank You, Jesus, for my food!’ Now, let’s see what you think when you pick an object.”
- End the activity with a word of prayer.
5 mins: [✨]
Home Project:
Ask the children to draw an object that reminded them of Jesus during the week. Tell them that you will discuss their pictures next week.
